• A few days later, Onyx gave Serena a rendez-vous at a restaurant.
The young woman, who had made herself pretty for the occasion, was waiting for him, sat at a table, and Onyx came.

The young berry settled down at the table, in front of Serena.
-How are you Serena ? You’re really pretty tonight.
-I’m fine, thank you. Ah ? Thank Onyx. You are very elegant too.

-You're welcome, and thanks for compliment. So, what would you like for the menu this evening ?
-Well, there’s a lot of choice… It’s going to be sirloin steak. And you ?
-Me… It’s going to be sirloin steak too, It look delicious.

They so had dinner, while talking of this and that.
-I liked this evening, it was pleasant.
-Glad that you like it, I’ve appreciated it too. I take you back ?
-It will be with pleasure. Answered the white berry.

They then took the way to Serena’s home, but, after a while, she noticed that the vampberry was silent.
    -Something’s wrong Onyx ?
-No, everything’s fine. Lied the young man.
    Watching him, she understood.
-You’re thirsty, right ? Usual meal isn’t enough for those of your specie.
-Yes, you’re right. Answered the vampberry, a bit shameful.

    Serena stretched out her wrist.
-You can drink if you want.
    -Really ? Made Onyx, surprised.
-If I tell it to you, it’s that you can. Retorted Serena.
    -Okay.

And he drank, quenching the thirst which tormented him.

-Thanks, Serena. And sorry, I would have prefered to not have to take your blood, after the evening we had. Besides, I had made what was needed before coming to avoid this kind of thing…

-It’s because you had not drunk enough blood, then. Joked the young lady.

    And they walked again.

-You’re really a surprising woman, you know ?
    -Ah, you think ?
-Yes, almost nobody would be ready to be next to a vampberry, and even less to give him some blood voluntarily. And you, it’s the opposite.
-Ha ha. That’s true. Answered his interlocutor by smiling.

They continued to discuss while walking and arrived to Serena’s house.

-Voila, here we are, it’s my home.
-Fine. Then I tell you good bye, Serena ?
    -Yeah, good bye, Onyx.

They exchanged a kiss, and the vampberry left.

The young woman went to her bedroom after she carressed Coton, who came by mewing, happy to see her master again.

-Me too, I’m happy to see you again, cutie. Made Serena while the kitten purred of pleasure.

In her bed, she didn’t fall asleep immediately, thinking of that evening and the different moment passed with Onyx, happy.
began to dive into the sleep.

-It was a good evening. She tought, falling asleep.

  • The vampberry and Serena continued to see each other regularly and their friendship evolved rather fast in another feeling : love.
Onyx finally moved in the young woman’s house.

Coton became used to this new inhabitant of the house who also gave her dose of cuddles and games.
Serena also pursued the writing of her book.
A morning, Onyx décided to take his courage in two hands…

-Darling ? Can you come, please ?

-Is there a problem Onyx ? Asked the interested, by going into the living room.

-No, everything’s fine, but I’ve something to ask you : do you want to marry me, my love ? Asked the vampberry which kneeled down and aimed a case in which shone a ring, in front of his partner.
-Oh my Berry ! Yes, I do ! She answered, surprised and happy.

    They kissed each other.

-I’ll present to you Grenat and Cobalt, my bests friends. They really helped me when I became a vampberry.

-It will be with pleasure that I would get acquainted. Moreover, will you speak to me about that period when you became a vampberry, if that doesn’t bother you ? I’m curious.
-Yes, after our wedding. Assured her fiancé.

They then had a long discussion to finalize the ceremony.

A few days later, Serena was finally ready for the wedding ceremony.
It was going to be a private ceremony, who would be celebrated in the house’s garden.
She have made the choice to not invite any of her acquaintance, because she feared their reaction if they saw Onyx.
This one also invited nobody, but Grenat and Cobalt which were going to have an important role to play in that marriage.

She went to the living room, were she saw her fiancé, he to ready for the ceremony, in a big discussion with a red berry. At his side was a berry with a dark blue skin.
Both foreigners had put their most beautiful clothes for the marriage.

-I hope you’ll tell her about what happened in the past. Made the unknown with the red skin.
-Yes, of course, Grenat. I told her that I’ll talk about that period after the wedding.

-Good. Because if they ever find you, they will not hesitate to attack she to take revenge. Asserted the blue berry.
-I’ll protect her, don’t worry Cobalt.
-I hope for you my friend, because you know how they are, it is not. Answered this one.
-Yeah, I know it too well. Sighed the young vampberry.

Onyx then noticed his fiancée who just had just joined them at the moment he finished his sentence.

    -Serena, you’re beautiful, my darling.
-Thank you. You too, you’re very beautiful today, my love.
-I present to you Grenat. It’s a witch, and it’s her who finalized the potion wich allow I and Cobalt to go out in the broad daylight without finishing in ashes. And him, it’s Cobalt, a vampberry like me.
-Nice to meet you, Cobalt and Grenat. Answered the young woman.
-Me too. Answered the red witch, shaking Serena’s hand.
-I’m glad to meet you. Asserted the blue vampberry bleu who also shaked the hand of the young berry. Onyx talked a lot about you.
-I don’t doubt about it. Answered the future bride. I talked about you two too, and I really wanted to get acquainted.
-It’s Grenat who will unite us : she’ll use a spell who will protect us for a moment. That will make so that no supernatural creature can locate us. Announced Onyx.
-Yes, but that spell will only work for about ten years. Warns the witch.
-It will alerady be that of gained. Anwsered her the black berry
-I see, it’s a good idea approved the white berry who had appreciated the idea during the discussion that she had with her fiancé about the ceremony. He had explained to her, without going to much in detail why it was better to make this, rather than a classical ceremony, telling her that that had something to do with enemies of his past from which he wanted to protected her from.
-Everything’s ready, I thing we can into the garden, now.
-Yes, let’s go. Made the black vampberry.

And they went in the garden.

The couple took place under the arc, Grenat facing them, Cobalt being next to her.

-Well… for the spell to work, you’ll have to be really honnest and don’t hesitate, because that spell don’t work in presence of lie and hesitation. While answering my question, you will exchange your wedding rings. Are you ready ? Warned the red witch who held out her hands.
-Yes. Answered in chorus future newlyweds.

-Perfect. Serena, you’re sure of your choice ? You will not regret to live, age and die at the sides of a man who will never age and die ? With who you’ll have slow chances to found a family because vampberries are differents from humans ? As possible danger to which exposes you such a connection? Asked the red berry.
-Yes, I’m sure. Asserted Serena while puting the ring at her fiancé’s finger.

-And you Onyx ? Will you support to see you wife live, getting old and die, while you won’t ? Are you ready at the idea that you might never have children ? Will you be able to protect her from those that could attack you if they discovered you connection ?
-Yes, I’m sure. Asserted Onyx too, who put the ring at his fiancée’s finger.
-Very well, I declare you husband and wife. You can kiss each other. Ended the red berry.

Some pinks and whites hearts appeared at the moment the couple exchanged the kiss.

-Excellent, those hearts are the sign that the spell worked. Declared Grenat, satisfied.

That’s how the ceremony ended, whereas the hearts disappeared.

Grenat and Cobalt stayed for dinner.
-Earlier, you seemed to have an important discussion, no ? Asked the young bride.
-Yes, but seen that’s bound to what Onyx promised to tell you, I think that we shall not need talk about it ourselves. Is not it, Onyx ? Made Grenat.
-Yeah, Yeah. I’ve promised, I told you, no ? Retorted the interested with a point of annoyance in the voice.
-Onyx told me that most of the vampberries don’t like that one of them marry a mortal or a creature that isn’t a vampberry and that’s partly why he insisted so that we make this ritual. Is it true ? Wanted to know Serena
-Yes, that’s true. Asserted Cobalt. The vampberries always try to separates couples formed by a vampberry and a non-vampberry. Sometime in a radical way…
-Ah… Neverthless you and Grenat are togheter, no ? Is it not badly seen, a vamberry and a witch togheter ?
-You can adress to me by our first name. As for your question, yes, it’s really badly seen, and we tried to kill us. Answered the witch.
-Solely, when Grenat and I eliminated all those who took themselves to us, they dropped : we were too trong for them. Assured the vampberry.
-Ah, okay… It’s true that vampberries are enough on horseback on the traditions … The white berry remembered itself.
-Yeah. That’s it. Confirmed the blue vampberry. And it’s one of the reasons which make that vampberries evolves so slowly compared with the world even if some of them are as modern as me. At the same time, we have time for us…

The dinner continued peacefully, then after having discussed a little more, Cobalt and Grenat returned at their home.

From now on alones, the newlyweds went to their bedroom to spend their wedding night there.

The next day, after the breakfast…

-Serena, I’ve promised you to talk a bit more about my past, in particular about the period when I became a vampberry, right ?
    -Yes, that’s true.
-Well, I’m going to speak about it to you now… At that time, I lived in Dragon Valley…

-Alors ? Il va s’en sortir, ma chérie ? S’enquit Cobalt.
-Oui, par chance, tu l’as amené juste à temps.

  • Some voices were heard from a modest house.

-Voila, the meal is ready. Announced a teen with a skin dark as the night. Her eyes and hair had the same tint, as her clothes.

-Thanks little sister. Answered a young man. Hum, delicious. You’re really talented for cooking, Abyss. He made, tasting the soup prepared by his sister.
-Thanks Onyx. I’ve used the lasts vegetables from the garden. We’ll have some problems to eat : we’re in fall, and they’re almost no more plants that I could use for our meals and the harvests of this years also weren’t good from what I’ve heard at the market…
-Don’t worry, with the various works that I’ve done, I was able to save enough so that we could hold a few months. We we’ll be able to buy what we need to eat even if there’s not too much at the market because of the bad harvests. And if needed, we’ll go to the next town to go shopping. Assured the young berry.
-Ah, that’s fine then. Answered the young girl, reassured. It’s already been three years since the end of the war against the dragons in which our parents died, but things dont seem to get betters. She sighed.
-Yes, it’s going to take time, but I’m sure that things will be back to normal.
-I hope you’re right, my brother.
    -Yeah, let’s hope, little sister.
And they continued their little discussion, while eating.

The meal ended, the berry lef to the forest, see if he could find again the plants and spices for cooking, his sister having used what was left in the reserve and not having found what she wanted at the market.

In fall, the plants for wich he looked began to become rare, the night had thus fallen when he had finished his thin harvest.

On the way home, he was treacherously attacked by behind and emptied of his blood by a dark green skinned vampberry.
The attack was so fast that he didn’t have time to react and wasn’t able to get rid of the iron vice that were the arms of the blood drinker.

When the aggressor had finished with his victim, he let him onto the cold ground of the forest and disappeared as fast as he came.
However, the young berry, in spite of the torpor which invaded him, and the eyelids which grew heavy, hung on to the life and tried to get up.

But he was not able to fight for a long time against the cold which seized its body and he collapsed, the eyes closing.
-Abyss… Was his last tought whereas he sank into the unconsciousness.

An unknown, having too finished his harvest went that way.
His skin, his eyes stangely glowy, as his hair and clothes were a dark blue.

He approached the lifeless body and felt that Onyx was still alive, but that he didn’t have for long.
-Maybe she could do something. While carrying the young man.
So, he went home, a quite simple house with blue and red tones.

A young berry who had a red skin, red eyes and hair was waiting for him. She was also wearing red clothes.
-Cobalt ?! But what… She started, surprised to see what he carried in his arms the blue vampberry.
-He was attacked by a vampberry and still alive. I tought you could save him with your power, Grenat. Ah, and I could find the night-plants that you wanted for your potions.
-Ah, I see. Again Durian and his band. Sighed the young woman. They’re not the soles vampberrys of the region who attacks innocents peoples… You can take him in the guest bedroom, I’ll see what I can do. And thanks for the plants, my darling.
-Okay. And it’s nothing, my love.

He then put Onyx on the bed and Grenat could then examinate and heal him, whereas he went to tidy up the harvest.
She then left the room and joined her companion in the living room.

-Then ? He’s he going to take out there, my darling ? Asked Cobalt.
-Yes, luckily, you brought him just in time. He had just enough blood to live until you brought him to me.
    -Ah, that’s good then.

-Solely, according to what I saw in the nursing, he’s going to turn into a vampberry. If not something worse : a ghoul.
-What ?! A spontaneous transformation ?! It’s impossible ! Answered the vampberry, surprised by that revelation.
-No, it’s just rare. Normaly, a vampberry’s victim die if she’s emptied from her blood, but in some cases, she can turn into a vampberry. It just need one vampberry’s blood drop for these cases, when it usually need a lot more to transform someone
-Yes, one drop of blood can’t transform someone into a blood drinker. Asserted Cobalt.
    - It’s true. However, she more often turn into a ghoul thirsting for blood than a vampberry because the victim didn’t get enough blood for a real transformation. It’s a failed vampberry in a sense, and that it is necessary to eliminate before he went on a rampage…
-And can we know in advance if it will become a ghoul or a vampberry ?
-No, we need to wait for the transformation, and in his case, it’s going to be soon, maybe in two days or three.
-Well, we’ll just have to wait, then. I hope we shall not have to kill him. He’s still so young. Sighed Cobalt.
    -I hope so, my darling.
